Forry's Covered Bridge (Columbia, PA)

Forry's Covered Bridge (Columbia, PA)

This watercolor painting is of Forry's Mill Covered Bridge located in West Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  The bridge, built by Elias McMillen in 1869, is a single span, double Burr arch truss bridge.  Because it crossses over big Chiques Creek, it is also known as the Big Chickies #7 Bridge.  The total length of the bridge is 103 feet.  In 1980, it was listed on the National Register of  Historic Places.  Notice all the details in this painting - they are all exact.  The artist knows this bridge well because he lived only a few miles away when he taught high school art.  He remembers seeing kids fishing in the creek and it brings back good memories.  The detail and feeling in this painting is just beautiful!  This print is available as an open edition.
