Wertz's Mill Bridge - Red Bridge (Reading, PA)

Wertz's Mill Bridge - Red Bridge (Reading, PA)

This watercolor painting, Wertz's Bridge, A/K/A the Red Bridge, is located in the Berks County Heritage Center, in Reading, Pennsylvania.  Mr. Amandas Knerr built it over the Tulpehocken Creek in 1867.  The 204 foot bridge is the longest single-span covered bridge in Pennsylvania.  It spans the Union canal as well as the Tulpehocken Creek.  The bridge has a Burr Arch-Truss construction design and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.  The detail and feeling in the painting is magnificent.  Not too far away from the bridge, the artist had a one-man art show at Penn State Berks, A College of Pennsylvania State University.  He also painted Gring's Mill in 1978.  Click Gallery.  This print is available as a limited edition, open edition and as a collectible.
