Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church ‘Altar’
I painted the altar of Saint Anthony Catholic Church as also the exterior of the church. I also painted the exterior and altar of St. Mary's Historic Catholic Church and their altar. I painted this watercolor at Christmas time. I sold the Saint Mary's exterior and altar originals exterior to a member of their church. The exterior and altar originals of Saint Anthony's are available to purchase.

Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church
Saint Anthony of Padua Church is one of the oldest Catholic churches in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The parish was founded in 1870 and completed and dedicated in 1875. The congregation was German-speaking, and all the Masses were celebrated in Latin and sermons preached in German.

Lititz Moravian Church
The Lititz Moravian Congregation was organized on February 19, 1749. The present Church building was built in 1787 and is the fifth place of worship for the Moravians of Lititz. Much of the sanctuary was destroyed in a fire in 1957 and carefully restored the following year. The sanctuary is of the “prophetic style,” with a high pulpit on which is the open Holy Bible. High above the pulpit is a stained-glass window of the Moravian Seal and Motto: the Seal is the picture of a lamb representing Jesus Christ or Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) carrying a flag with a cross.

First Reformed Church
First Reformed Church of Lancaster, an Open and Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ, first gathered in 1729. Its earliest members were German, Swiss and French settlers who built the first church in Lancaster in 1736.

Historic Saint Mary’s Catholic Church ‘Altar’

In 1886 three paintings by Filippo Costaggini were completed. “The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin” above the main altar, “The Annunciation” above the Blessed Virgin altar, and “The Flight Into Egypt” above the St. Joseph altar. My dad restored two of the three murals, and I assisted. He did a beautiful restoration but could not do the third one because of his cancer. A member of the church purchased the original watercolor painting.

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, more commonly known as Historic St. Mary's Church ( German: St. Marien-Kirche ), is a Roman Catholic church located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1741, throughout most of its history, the church served the German-speaking Catholics of Lancaster. My dad and I restored two of the three murals behind the altar in 1991. A church member purchased the original.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church

This church is in Columbia, Pennsylvania. About 1859, Bishop John Neumann of Philadelphia visited Columbia to purchase a plot of ground for Holy Trinity Catholic Church to take care of the Germans. Early in 1860, Holy Trinity Parish was established. During the summer of 1860, the Most Reverend James F. Wood, Bishop of Philadelphia, laid the cornerstone of the new building. Holy Trinity Catholic Church maintains its parish cemetery. Fastnachts are baked on Monday, Shrove Tuesday, and Ash Wednesday. Nearly seven thousand dozen of fastnachts are made and sold each season. This original painting is part of the church's art collection.

Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren

With ink, I drew four Elizabethtown College buildings and four buildings on Franklin and Marshall College campuses. All eight drawings have been sold.

Saint Peter’s Catholic Church
In 1799, St. Peter’s Catholic Church was built in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. The church was founded by Father Farmer, a trustee for the University of Pennsylvania, and the first Pennsylvania Catholic to hold office. St. Peter’s was originally under the St. Mary’s mission, but was placed under St. Patrick’s Church in Harrisburg in 1832. In 1840, St. Peter’s became a parish of its own, where Father Francis X Marshall was its first pastor.

Saint Peter’s Kierch
St. Peter's Kierch, also called the Old Kierch or St. Peter's Church, is a historic Lutheran church in Middletown, Pennsylvania. Construction began in 1767 and it was dedicated by Henry Muhlenberg in 1769.

Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Church
SOLD! The Presentation of the Virgin Mary Church purchased the original oil painting for its permanent art collection. PRINTS - Open Edition Prints (unsigned/unnumbered) are $10.00-$20.00) each. In 1867, a group of prominent Marietta citizens, including Samuel Haldeman, purchased a tract of land to establish a church in Marietta under the name “St. Mary’s.” The Catholics of Marietta continued to raise monies to construct their church.
On May 7, 1871, the basement chapel was completed, and the rectory was completed in 1896.

Donegal Presbyterian Church ‘Study’
SOLD! The watercolor original was sold to a pastor of the Donegal Presbyterian Church. There are open-edition prints (unnumbered/unsigned for $10.00-$20.00. Left of the study house is the Donegal Presbyterian Church and the Witness Tree. The tree had to be removed, and a friend gifted me a cross made of the wood of the tree.

Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church
The first St. Joseph church was small, seating about 400. By 1871, a steady stream of German Catholic immigrants had settled in Lancaster, and in 1885, a new, larger church was under construction to accommodate the large congregation. Their altar is decorated with poinsettias during the Christmas holiday. It is breathtaking. The cemetery is included in the above picture.

Saint James Episcopal Church

Since 1744 the people of Saint James have worshiped God and served their community. Before building their stone church, the congregation met in the local courthouse. Despite the church being boarded up during the Revolutionary War, due to conflict between a rector loyal to the British Crown and a congregation of prominent patriots, church life resumed in 1783.

Saint Patrick’s Cathedral
Saint Patrick's Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. It is the seat of the Archbishop of New York as well as a parish church. I stayed on the ninth floor in a hotel across from Saint Patrick's Cathedral. The view was beautiful.

Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church
I discovered this church when I exhibited my art at the Saxonburg Arts Festival. The burial ground of the German Evangelical congregation dates back to April 1, 1836, when F.C. ROEBLING, his wife, Wilhelmina, and John A. ROEBLING conveyed to the German inhabitants one acre of land for a school building and cemetery.

Heinz Memorial Chapel
The Heinz Chapel, located on the University of Pittsburgh campus next to the Cathedral of Learning and designed by Charles Klauder, was dedicated in 1938 and was a gift from Howard Heinz and his sons. Between 170 and 190 weddings, restricted to affiliates of the University of Pittsburgh and the Heinz employees, are held each year in the chapel. I hope that the original belongs to the chapel or a member of the Heinz family.

Mary Dixon Chapel
Mary Dixon's death at the age of 19, three years after she graduated from Linden Hall Seminary, so grieved her aging father that he had a memorial chapel built in her memory on the Linden Hall campus. Linden Hall has a continuous and unbroken history of educating young women since 1746, and is the oldest residential school for the education of young women in the country.

Lancaster Theological Seminary
Lancaster Theological Seminary is a seminary of the United Church of Christ in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1825 by German Reformed Church members in the United States to provide theological education for prospective clergy and other church leaders. My younger brother, Allen Henry Hermansader, graduated from the seminary in 1979. I hope the seminary owns the original at some time shortly.

Union Meeting House

The cornerstone of the Union Meeting House was laid in 1818, on land granted to the borough by David Cook. Mr. Cook was the founder of the section of town that was called New Haven. The Union Meeting House opened in 1823.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is a historic Lutheran church located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 1766, the current building was completed. The remains of both Thomas Mifflin and Thomas Wharton are interred at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Donegal Presbyterian Church

'Donegal Presbyterian Church' porcelain ornaments are available. Donegal Presbyterian Church Complex is located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The historic church was built in 1732 with a cemetery behind the stone wall. In 1777 congregants of Donegal Presbyterian Church gathered with Pastor Colin McFarquhar under this nearby tree to vow allegiance to the cause of the American patriots in their fight against England and its King. That stately White Oak, the Witness Tree, lived until 1991. Dr. Baer was the minister at the church when I painted this watercolor. I was given a wooden cross made from the 'Witness Tree' as a gift.
